What is free?
A natural person may download, install, run, copy, study and modify the software for their own personal use. This explicitly includes live trading, investing, analysis and record-keeping for their own beneficially owned personal accounts. Earning a profit, trading frequently or relying on personal trading for an income does not, by itself, require a commercial licence.
You may use a broker such as Trade Nation for your own personal trading. That does not give the broker permission to integrate or distribute the software. Working for a company does not prevent you from using it privately outside your work duties.
Individuals may share original or modified copies free with other individuals for personal use, including as non-business community contributions, subject to the full licence's source, attribution and notice requirements.
When does a business need to pay?
A company or a person using the software for an employer, client or other business must obtain a separate written commercial agreement and pay its agreed fees before use. This includes internal work and business evaluation, not just selling a product. The requirement applies to local userscripts and Pine indicators as well as hosted software.
- A broker's employee uses an indicator for work or a company account: a paid agreement is required.
- Trade Nation integrates, embeds or white-labels a tool in its platform: a paid agreement is required.
- A broker distributes a tool free to clients, includes it in a subscription, or bundles it with another product: a paid agreement is required.
- A company hosts the tool or provides its functions or outputs through a web interface or API: a paid agreement is required.
- A company publishes its changes or runs the tool on customers' computers: neither action removes the commercial requirement.
Contact Vladan Colovic for a commercial licence. Describe the tools, intended use and distribution or hosting arrangements. The enquiry opens a public GitHub issue; keep confidential information out of it. Enquiring does not itself grant permission, and there is no fixed price or automatic commercial licence on this website.
What does “open source + commercial licence” mean here?
The phrase describes public access to the source and the free-personal/paid-business model. The governing document is the SVKO Personal Use and Commercial Licence 1.0, a custom source-available licence. Because it restricts business use, it does not meet the OSI Open Source Definition. It is not MIT, MPL, AGPL or BSL, and it does not automatically convert to one of those licences later.
The current original website code and content, all six published userscripts and all four published Pine source copies use these terms. Third-party material keeps its own licences. The source attribution record identifies the files and external components.
Attribution
Watchlist was independently implemented after inspiration from another author's watchlist idea. Trading Statistics uses uPlot under its own MIT licence. Hotkeys acknowledges knowledge of Trade From Chart's platform objects; it does not bundle that extension. These acknowledgements do not transfer ownership of someone else's code.
This page explains the model. The full licence text governs permissions; a separate commercial agreement governs any business rights purchased from the author.
